About The Author: Swami Abhedananda (1866–1939), born Kaliprasad Chandra, was a direct disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahansa. After meeting Ramakrishna in 1884, he became a monk in 1886, adopting the name "Swami Abhedananda Puri." He traveled across India, meditating in the Himalayas and meeting famous sages. In 1897, Swami Vivekananda sent him to the West to head the Vedanta Society of New York, where he taught Vedanta for over 25 years. He founded the Ramakrishna Vedanta Math in Kolkata and Darjeeling and published Visvavani, the Math's magazine. Abhedananda died in 1939, as the last surviving direct disciple of Ramakrishna.
